One more step towards greatness

November 30th, 2008

Since we were hosting Thanksgiving (actually the Saturday after Thanksgiving) at our place (13 total people), we had another big push to try to finish up the living room. Before our Mexican vacation I spent some time on things, but the insanity began the day after we returned.

There was a lot of painting, electrical work, and a handful of little bits. It may not sound like much but I spent every available hour working on the living room (including the majority of three of my free days). It was exhausting, and although we were planning to have more done, things are in pretty good shape. There’s still several hours of work to be done (baseboards, shelfs in cabinets, cornices for the window treatments), but things are in the home stretch. The scariest thing is that this project has gone on for over a year now (longer if you might be inclined to think that the project started when we pulled the wallpaper off the dining room walls).

I actually spent an hour this morning running rope lighting up in the tray because I wanted to see the final piece of the electrical work that I spent so much time on completed. In the end I’m really happy with the results (and glad I spent the extra $15 per dimmer to get the electronic ones).

There truly is no rest for the wicked though. There is still a significant amount of work to be done on the dining room, but I think that project is going to take a back seat for the work that we need to do on the future baby’s room (thankfully the baby room is a much easier project to complete).
