Jeep not go boom

Sunday, June 20th, 2004

Drove out to Justin’s to sort out the Jeep issues on Saturday. Everything went fairly well (and it ended up my issues were my own errors.)We were able to not only get my Jeep running correctly, but Justin noticed issues with his Jeep and we/he was able to fix those as well.Overall pretty successful, and I can finally knock one of the major “upgrades” off my Jeep to-do list.

What the fuck is going on with our country?

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

George Bush and his administration seem to be trying their damnedest to make sure that the rest of the world despises us.Today there was a news article about the US keeping suspected terrorists in hidden locations in Iraq. In my view, the US (especially now) should be taking the “higher road” and doing everything we can to show our good side, yet time after time we see poor decisions of those in power (most of those decisions are made by those in the Bush administration.)I think my fellow countrymen are starting to realize just how fucked we really are. We’ve gone from a country that all free nations rallied to (right after 9/11) to a country of cowboys that does whatever we want, damn those who oppose us.Unfortunately we are on a slippery slope and well on our way down to the bottom. I mean, come on now… we are a bigger threat/target to a bigger terrorist organization than we were at any other time in our past. We are now hated and disliked by more people around the world than ever before.I think Bush is a complete idiot, and those who advise him are twice as idiotic. Lack of foresight is one of the worst qualities in an administration (and this administration has very little foresight.)The worst thing is that I don’t know if Kerry is any better suited to handle this situation. If anything we could use some of Clinton’s historic spin “I did not go to war with those people.”Anyway, enough of my rant. I look forward to the country booting Bush out of office, it’s just too bad we don’t have a better candidate to take his place.

Jeep go boom

So I drove to Manchester to finally install the slip yoke eliminator that I’ve had for a very long time now. Basically this involves disassembly of the transfer case (the device that routes drive power to the front and rear tires on a 4 wheel drive vehicle,) swapping out some components and reinstalling everything. Overall it was about a 5-6 hour project. Of course the last step of the project is to install a new rear drive shaft, which I found out was not correct for my vehicle. Justin and I decided it was probably better if I just put the Jeep in 4 wheel drive mode, and drive home using the front wheels (without a rear drive shaft.) No biggie, I’d get the replacement bits and be good to go.Afterwards Brian, John, Sarah, Justin, Kristin and I were going to dinner. I pulled off the exit with Brian behind me and noticed a thin oil mist on the back window and a lot of smoke in front of me (which initially I thought was the car in front of me.) I pulled the Jeep off the side of the road and took a look under it. Something happened and all of my new transmission fluid that was supposed to be in my transfer case was now all over my exhaust (and rear axle, and fuel tank, and….)Sometimes the shit hits the fan (or the fluid hits the exhaust in this case.) So I got the Jeep towed back to Justin’s and borrowed his Blazer to get home (damn hour drive home, good thing Justin has so many vehicles.)So next weekend, it’s back to Justin’s to figure out what went wrong.

Found this pretty cool tool that has been busy archiving the internet. It’s called the Wayback Machine (obviously from those saturday morning cartoons with Wonder Dog.)Some stuff doesn’t come up, or the links don’t work correctly. Even so you can uncover some relics.
